Madhya Pradesh - VECV to export 30,000 engines to Volvo Europe

Indore,Madhya Pradesh,India -The Economic Times, by Ketan Thakkar -1 Aug, 2013: -- Volvo AB, the world's second-largest truck maker is betting on India to be one of its key production hub, as its Indian Joint Venture with Eicher Motors, VE Commercial Vehicle (VECV), takes a bigger role as a supplier of engines to Europe and new generation trucks and buses under works to the other emerging markets eventually... The engine plant at Pithampur, on the outskirts of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, which was inaugurated on Wednesday will ship almost 30,000 units of medium duty 5 litre to 8 litre Euro VI engines to Europe over the next few years, besides serving Euro III, Euro IV and Euro V engine requirement of Volvo AB in other emerging markets, said Bertil Thoren, representative of Volvo AB on the VE Commercial Vehicle Board...

Frankfurt,Germay -Bloomberg, by Christoph Rauwald - Jul 30, 2013: -- MAN SE, Europe’s third-largest maker of commercial vehicles, reported a 67 percent plunge in second-quarter profit, burdened by extra costs for a power-plant project and declining demand for trucks in the region... MAN, a unit of Wolfsburg, Germany-based carmaker Volkswagen AG, has scaled back production as companies hold off on vehicle purchases amid recessions in Europe... New registrations of trucks above 3.5 tons declined 11.5 percent in Europe in the first six months of the year to 132,900 vehicles, industry association ACEA said on July 26. Signs that the economy of the 17 nations sharing the euro may be recovering include an increase in the Ifo institute’s business climate index in Germany and an unexpected expansion in manufacturing in the euro area... Measures to protect VW 's earnings have included reducing work shifts, cutting costs and streamlining procurement... Boosting efficiency at MAN is vital for VW’s strategy of pushing cooperation between the German truckmaker and the car producer’s Scania commercial-vehicle division in Sweden... Cooperation between MAN and Scania has begun with joint purchases of raw materials, and the cost reductions are expected to help earnings in coming quarters...
