Stockholm,Sweden -Reuters, by Niklas Pollard and Helena Soderpalm -Jul 19, 2013: -- Truck maker Scania said on Friday it will raise production in the coming months as an upturn in demand in the long-suffering European market gathered pace, lifting its order intake in the second quarter... The truck maker, majority owned by Volkswagen, said a pick-up in orders of heavy-duty commercial vehicles seen in the early months of the year had carried into the second quarter as the European market edged further into recovery... Scania, which at the behest of its German parent is strengthening ties with VW-controlled MAN SE, said orders bookings of its trucks and buses rose 15 percent year-on-year in the second quarter versus a 5 rise seen by analysts... In Europe alone, truck orders were up 25 percent year-on-year while in Latin America, where government incentive schemes have underpinned a boom in sales in regional heavyweights Brazil and Argentina in recent quarters, orders rose 54 percent... Europe's heavy truck makers are emerging from an extended slump in demand due to the euro zone debt crisis and related recession with a growing body of evidence that the need to replace ageing fleets is finally prompting truckers to invest...

* Germany - New Actros wins McCulla fuel efficiency trial
Stuttgart,Germany -HGV UK -July 18, 2013: -- A Mercedes-Benz New Actros left trucks from every other major manufacturer trailing in its wake in a fuel-efficiency trial staged by temperature-controlled distribution specialist McCulla (Ireland)... The result prompted the Lisburn-based company to order 10 New Actros 2545 tractors with aerodynamic StreamSpace cabs... The first trucks to wear McCulla’s new livery are now hard at work hauling refrigerated trailers between Ireland and Great Britain, as well as making regular runs to France, Switzerland and the Benelux countries. The operator has also ordered 10 more 6×2 StreamSpace units with the same state-of-the-art 450 hp straight-six engines for delivery next year...
* Sweden - New Volvos on trial at Brian Yeardley Continental

Stockholm,Sweden -NGV UK - July 15, 2013: -- International logistics operator Brian Yeardley Continental Ltd is conducting fuel trials with two new Globetrotter XL-cabbed, Volvo FH-500 4×2, X-Low chassis tractor units which have been purchased for that reason. Both trucks are equipped with Volvo’s 13-litre D13C engine rated at 500hp (368Kw) and are Euro-5 compliant... The new FHs, have been specified with Volvo’s latest fuel saving technology, including the I-Shift gearbox with Long-Haul and Fuel Economy+ software and I-See... I-See uses GPS positioning to memorise roads and gradients and share this information, via central data storage, with other trucks, to enable I-Shift’s gear changes to be optimised for fuel economy. Volvo Trucks claims fuel savings of up to 5% with I-See...
