Warrenville,ILL,USA -ABR Home/Automobile Manufacturing News -17 July 2013: -- US based truck maker Navistar has launched its new heavy-duty International WorkStar vocational truck in the home-market... The vehicle is powered by the company's 13L engine with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) emissions technology that is made available with outputs ranging from 365hp and 1,250lbft of torque to 475hp and 1,700lbft torque...

Navistar has launched the vehicle in two variants including the 7600 SBA with 46inch set-back axle and 7600 SFA with 30inch set-forward axle, both of which feature a 113inch bumper to back-of-cab (BBC)... Features of the vehicle include high-visibility hood, huck-bolted frame and cross-member system with a number of frame-rail options, diamond Logic electrical system, double-sided galvanized steel cab and Dual-powered steering gears with large front axle...


* Illinois - Navistar buys more time for turnaround with Icahn deal

Lisle,ILL,USA -Reuters/The Chicago Tribune -July 15, 2013: -- Navistar International Corp. shares rose as much as 10 percent Monday after the company struck a deal with activist investors Carl Icahn and Mark Rachesky that heads off a proxy fight... The truckmaker gave each one more seat on its board... Navistar shares closed at $31.99, up 9.71 percent. The company also said it was extending the threshold of its shareholders' rights plan to 19.99 percent from 15 percent, allowing both investors to raise their stakes...


* Ohio - Kenworth consider natural gas where it makes sense

Chillicothe,OH,USA -Fleet Owner, by David Cullen -17 July 2013: -- Like other heavy-duty truck OEMs, Kenworth Truck Co. is staying on top of the alternative-fuel trend line in trucking that keeps pointing to natural gas as the front-runner. But the truck maker is clear that that’s not to say diesel power is going away anytime soon, nor should that be expected... The biggest group of NGV customers, according to Andy Douglas, national sales manager—specialty markets, remain private fleets whose trucks typically return to a domicile daily for overnight refueling. One example he noted was Indianapolis-based beer wholesaler Monarch Beverage, which plans to have at least 85% of its fleet run on compressed natural gas...

The sales battle for full-size pickups traditionally has seen manufacturers slug it out over which truck has the highest payload and can tow the heaviest trailer, stressing brute strength over everything else. But for the 2014 model year, fuel economy looks to be front and center, sparking a war of words among truck makers...


* Alabama - Honda Ridgeline to take nearly 2-year hiatus

Honda will pull the plug on its current-generation Ridgeline compact pickup earlier than expected, according to the most recent WardsAuto/Automotive Compass forecast... Industry sources say the Ridgeline now is set to end production in September 2014, with a new model not launching until second-quarter 2016... This is a change from a prior forecast that had the current-generation truck ending its run in spring 2016 and the next-generation model beginning production the following week...
