Canberra,ACT,Australia -The Herald Sun, by Stepehen Drill -July 05, 2013: -- Australia's trucking industry could be brought to its knees as 8500 drivers and logistics workers threaten to strike... The Transport Workers Union filed documents in the Fair Work Commission at 4pm on Friday to get the ball rolling on the nationwide shutdown... The union is taking action against the Toll Group, one of the country's largest logistics companies, which transports goods for major retailers including Coles, Woolworths and Myer... But Toll returned fire, saying it was disappointed the TWU had threatened industrial action while talks were set to continue next week... TWU national secretary Tony Sheldon said 68 hours of negotiation had failed to secure a new pay deal... The documents filed with the Fair Work Commission show the union is seeking permission to undertake 72-hour strikes, which could lead to empty supermarket shelves across the country... Toll Group spokesman Christopher Whitefield said the union was putting jobs at risk...
