Beijing,China -Automotive News -11 April 2013: -- China's sales of light vehicles rose 17 percent year-on-year to 1.6 million units in March as demand surged for SUVs and MPVs, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM)... Last month, SUV sales jumped 33 percent year-on-year to 235,000 units while MPV sales surged 160 percent to 117,000 units. Sedan sales rose 11 percent from a year earlier to 1.0 million units. By contrast, microvan sales dropped 20 percent to 195,000 units... For the first three months of this year, China's light vehicle sales grew 17 percent from the same period last year to 5.4 million units, according to CAAM... So far, sales have outstripped early forecasts that China sales would rise roughly 8 to 10 percent this year. However, average dealership inventory levels climbed to 60 days worth of sales as of the end of February, up from 33 days in January, according to the dealer association...
