* Italy - Fiat SpA will not build a Maserati in Detroit after all

Turin,Italy -The Detroit News, by Bryce G. Hoffman -February 19, 2013: -- The Maserati Levante, which shares a common architecture with the new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was supposed to have been built at Chrysler Group LLC's Jefferson North Assembly Plant starting later this year... Instead, the luxury sport utility vehicle will be built at Fiat's underutilized Mirafiori factory near its headquarters in Turin, Italy. But the company says workers at Jefferson North have nothing to fear from the decision, which was made last year but not formally announced... The decision to build the Levante at the Turin plant is also part of Fiat's strategy to revive its flagging European business by converting Fiat factories to produce higher-end Maseratis and Alfa Romeos...


* Japan - Russian output of Toyota SUVs gets under way 
Nakamura-ku,Nagoya,Japan -The Detroit News -February 18, 2013: -- Toyota Motor Corp. said OOO Sollers-Bussan, a Russia-based vehicle-assembly venture, has begun turning out Toyota-brand Land Cruiser Prado SUVs at its plant in Vladivostok, in the far east of Russia. OOO Sollers-Bussan, a venture established in 2010 owned half by Sollers and half by Mitsui and Co. Ltd., has the capacity to initially produce around 1,000 SUVs a month, Toyota said Monday... The Japanese automaker said it was supplying components as well as maintaining product quality through training and management support activities... Vehicles assembled by Sollers-Bussan will be shipped out mainly on the Trans-Siberian railway and sold through Toyota's dealer network in Russia, said Toyota. It also produces vehicles at a Toyota plant on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, in western Russia...
