* DC - Freightliner to showcase new natural gas-powered Cascadia on N.A. tour

  Washington,D.C.,USA -Truck News -Nov 29, 2012: -- Freightliner Trucks is now offering a customer demonstrator program for its all-new Cascadia 113 natural gas day cab. Five demonstrator tractors will be available to allow customers in Canada and the US to have direct access to the new product, Freightliner said during an announcement today at the American Trucking Associations’ Summit on Natural Gas in Trucking. Equipped with the new Cummins Westport ISX12 G heavy-duty natural gas engine, the Allison 4000HS transmission, and 115 diesel gallon equivalent compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel tanks, the Cascadia 113 natural gas tractor is designed for regional haul and less-than-truckload applications. The 12-litre ISX12 G natural gas engine is based on the Cummins ISX12 diesel heavy-duty engine platform and will operate on either CNG or liquefied natural gas (LNG). It features ratings of 400 hp and 1,450 lb-ft torque, optional engine brake, and manual and automatic transmission capability...

Recreational vehicle makers are churning out higher numbers of travel trailers bound for dealers' lots and, ultimately, campgrounds... Overall shipments from manufacturers to dealers — a key measure of consumer demand — are expected to rise 10 percent in 2012 and could gain another 4.5 percent next year, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association says... Through September, shipments were up nearly 11 percent from the same period last year, the group said. The higher-than-expected number had dealers, manufacturers and suppliers feeling more optimistic as they gathered this week for an annual industry trade show...


* DC - CARB, EPA approves two new DPFs 

Washington,DC,USA -Land Line, by Charlie Morasch -30 Nov 2012: -- The California Air Resources Board has given approval for two new DPF models to be marketed and sold for Class 8 trucks... Ventura, CA-based Clean Diesel Technologies announced in mid-November it had been granted CARB’s temporary approval for its Purifilter diesel particulate filter... On Friday, Boshart Engineering Inc. announced CARB’s verification of its BE Econix DPF – which has what the company called the industry’s “first safety device for a DPF” ... CARB’s temporary exemption allows Clean Diesel Technologies to sell the Purifilter while CARB completes its final verification process on the filter and its “passively-regenerating” system...
