* Germany - Mercedes-Benz vehicle revamp moves into construction sector
Stuttgart,Germany -Transport Engineer -28 Nov 2012: -- Mercedes-Benz continues to revamp its range of trucks, with the latest variant being a new entry into the construction sector, dubbed Arocs... The vehicle range will include dump trucks, all-wheel drive dump trucks, concrete mixers, tractor units and drop-side chassis vehicles, available as two-, three- and four-axle units... Mercedes-Benz says three will be 16 engine output variants, from 238bhp to 625bhp, and adds that all the have been designed to meet the future Euro 6 emissions standard... The BlueTec 6 power plants are all in-line six-cylinder engines with exhaust-gas turbochargers and intercoolers to provide high power at little more than the engine's idling speed... Maximum tractive power ranges from 1,000 to 3,000Nm and will be achieved by the four engine sizes: 7.7, 10.7, 12.8 and 15.6 litres – the latter being new and coming in the form of the new OM473 engine...
* Germany - German Truckmaker MAN to Start Short-Time Work in Jan
Munich,Bavaria,Germany -Dow Jones Newswires/Fox Business -December 4, 2012: -- German truckmaker MAN SE will introduce short-time work next year due to flagging sales, the daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported Tuesday... The company will start short-time work, a government initiative in which the government subsidizes employees' wages for reduced working hours, on Jan. 14 in Munich and Salzgitter, the report said. Around 3,500 employees will be affected in Munich and 1,800 in Salzgitter, the report added... MAN SE has registered short-time work with the federal labor agency for the first half of 2013... However, MAN isn't planning any job cuts, he added...
* China - SAIC-GM-Wuling To Build Third Manufacturing Base In Chongqing
Chongqing,Southwest China -Automotive World -28 Nov 2012: -- SAIC-GM-Wuling announced today that it will build a third manufacturing base in Chongqing Municipality to keep pace with the rising demand for its vehicles... The joint venture between GM China, SAIC and Wuling Motors will begin construction of its new facility early next year, pending relevant government approvals. The RMB 6.6 billion first phase is scheduled to open in 2015. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 400,000 vehicles and engines. It will adopt GM’s global manufacturing processes and standards. SGMW will discuss which models will be built closer to the start of production... SGMW has been China’s leading mini-commercial vehicle producer since 2006. In 2009, it became the first vehicle manufacturer in China to sell 1 million vehicles in a calendar year. SGMW had year-to-date sales of 1,311,489 units in the domestic market with a 47.5 percent of China’s commercial mini-commercial vehicle segment. It is on track to top last year’s record domestic sales of 1,285,820 vehicles...
