Los Angeles,CAL,USA -Associated Press/The Detroit News, by Dee-Ann Durbin -December 2, 2012: -- The Toyota RAV4 is getting a makeover that could help it retake the crossover crown... The current version is now the fourth best-selling crossover in the U.S., behind the more recently redesigned Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Chevrolet Equinox... Now, Toyota hopes its revamped 2013 RAV4 can reclaim the top sales spot. The crossover has a sharper, more muscular look than the boxier outgoing model. It also has a redesigned interior and better fuel economy. It debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week and will go on sale early next year...

* California - Toyota on track to being world's top automaker again
Los Angeles,CAL,USA -Los Angeles Times, by Jerry Hirsch -December 1, 2012: -- Toyota Motor Corp. appears poised to regain its position as the world's largest automaker, a remarkable turnaround after years of safety recalls, huge federal fines and the Japanese earthquake last year... In short order, surging sales have put that all in the rearview... Toyota is likely to sell 9.7 million vehicles this year, surpassing second-place General Motors Co. by more than 1 million vehicles and setting a record for annual auto sales. That's generating huge profits, with earnings tripling in the latest quarter to $3.2 billion and sales surging almost 20 percent compared with a year earlier... The U.S., where Toyota's reputation suffered most through the recalls, is now a cash cow. Through the first 10 months of the year, the Japanese automaker sold more than 1.7 million cars and trucks in the country, a 30-percent gain and more than double the industry growth rate...

(Picture from BMW: 2012 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works Coupe)
Oxford,Cowley,UK -The Dallas Morning News/The Detroit News, by Terry Box -December 1, 2012: -- Most Mini Coopers radiate cute so intensely that they leave you with rosy cheeks and tartar-free teeth... I like them, and after an hour or so of buzzing around in one, I look downright perky — ready to apply for a job at the local Apple store and maybe download some Cake... But smiling Skippy Cooper and turquoise beach shirts can wear thin quickly. And if that happens, I have just the evil antidote for you, still wrapped in a politically correct Mini container... The 2012 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works Coupe arrived burdened with a long, gusty name that sounds like some sort of enunciation test — or sobriety check...

* Michigan - Ford recalls 89K Escapes, Fusions over engine fires
Dearbon,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden and David Shepardson -December 1, 2012: -- Ford Motor Co. issued its fourth recall Friday for its 2013 Ford Escape SUV, citing a fire risk... The recall affects 73,320 Escapes, as well as 15,833 midsized 2013 Ford Fusions. Some 80,000 of the recalled vehicles were in the U.S... It's the latest setback for the Escape, introduced in June and a key vehicle in Ford's lineup... The Dearborn automaker urged owners of the vehicles with 1.6-liter engines to contact dealers immediately, to arrange loaners. But unlike an earlier Escape recall, this one didn't caution drivers to stop driving them... The recall is for Escape and Fusion SE and SEL models with a 1.6-liter engine...
