* Michigan - Daimler to announce $100M investment as Obama visits Detroit Diesel
Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News/ABC News Radio, by David Shepardson and Christine MacDonald -December 10, 2012: -- As President Barack Obama visits a Daimler AG plant in Redford Township today, the company plans to announce the investment of more than $100 million at the facility "in new technology, expanded production and jobs in the United States," a Daimler official told The Detroit News... The investment at Detroit Diesel — a unit of the German automaker — will add an unspecified number of new jobs to the 3-million-square-foot plant as it expands beyond diesel engines... Detroit Diesel has 2,300 employees and builds four major engines, rear axles and 12-speed transmissions... Officials in Detroit said Daimler’s announcement would make Daimler Trucks North America the first heavy-duty truck company in the U.S. to produce the engine, axles and transmission all in one place. It is expected to lower manufacturing costs and consumer prices as well as improve fuel efficiency...
* Washington - Kenworth offering extended protection plans on Paccar engines
Seattle,WASH,USA -Fleet Owner -Dec. 10, 2012: -- Kenworth is offering extended protection plans for the new line of 2013 Paccar engines installed in select Kenworth models... The 12.9L Paccar MX-13, available in the Class 8 Kenworth T660, T680, T700, T800 and W900, includes a standard base warranty of two years or 250,000 mi. whichever comes first. The new optional protection plans can extend the warranty coverage anyway from 3 to 7 years and from 100,000 to 700,000 mi. Protection plan options encompassing three engine coverage categories (comprehensive, modified, and major component) in addition to extended engine aftertreatment options are offered...

San Antonio,TX,USA -Fleet Owner, by Sean Kilcarr -Dec. 13, 2012: -- As it readies the 12L ISX-G to begin production in mid-2013, Cummins is taking this natural gas-fired heavy truck engine unit on the road to fleets and dealerships to explain the engineering “subtleties” that make it different not only from its diesel-powered counterparts but from the OEM’s other natural gas engine models as well, especially the 8.9L ISL-G... At the 2012 Rush Technician Skills Rodeo held this week in San Antonio, TX Cummins displayed a “test sled” featuring a pre-production 12L ISX-G powered by compressed natural gas (CNG)... Such “sleds” display pack a fully-functional engine, radiator, emission control system and fuel supply into a single compact test unit that can be taken to fleet shops and dealerships for technicians to study...
