* Australia - Business tax working group backs down on truck tax changes
Canberra,ACT,Australia -Transport and Logistic News, by Charles Pauka -October 25, 2012: -- The Federal Government’s Business Tax Working Group has backed down on its proposal to change the depreciation arrangements for trucks and trailers, as well as its other proposed business tax savings... In its draft final report, released yesterday, the working group concluded that it was not able to recommend a package of business tax savings to fund a company tax rate cut, as required by its terms of reference... The working group had proposed a series of tax savings, including the removal of the statutory effective life caps on trucks and trailers. Trucking businesses would have been required to depreciate trucks and trailers over 15 years rather than 7½ years for trucks and 10 years for trailers, unless they self assessed their effective lives... ATA chief executive, Stuart St Clair, said the working group should now finish its work on company tax by lodging a final report with the government in the same terms as the draft...
* UK - Foreign lorries to pay for use of UK roads by April 2014

London,EN,UK -Commercial Motor, by Chris Druce -23 October 2012: -- Foreign lorries could be paying for the use of UK roads by April 2014, Transport Minister, Stephen Hammond, has revealed... A debate on the Lorry Road User Charge in the House of Commons earlier today started the required bill on its Parliamentary journey... It also coincided with the publication of the findings of the Department for Transport consultation on charging LGVs. This provides more detail on what the scheme means for UK hauliers... Foreign vehicles, the charge will need to be paid before they use UK roads, and 90% of foreign vehicles are expected to fall into the top bands, which will attract annual payments of between £640 up to £1,000... The bill makes it an offence to fail to pay the levy. Enforcement will carried out by Vosa and will include £200 on-the-spot fines and up to a £5,000 fine if it goes to court...
* Mexico - Companies put Freightliner models into service

UNNE Corporate, a logistics company for special transport of construction materials and crude oil derivatives, has ordered 50 Freightliner Cascadia trucks. Package delivery company Estafeta has order 90 Freightliner Business Class M2 models – 70 of which have already been delivered, Daimler Trucks said...
* India - Walmart spurs Transport Corp's spending on logistics. Prepares for jump in freight demand
New Delhi,India -Bloomberg/Business Standard -Oct 25, 2012: -- Transport Corp of India, the nation’s third-largest logistics company, plans its biggest investment in five years to prepare for a jump in freight demand as retailers such as Walmart Stores Inc open outlets... The company will spend Rs 150 crore ($28 million) in the year to March 31 to add more trucks and build warehouses... The spending may help Transport Corp’s supply chain division, which offers warehousing and packaging, to expand more than 20 per cent annually through 2017, Joint Managing Director, Vineet Agarwal said... The operator plans to add 1,000 more trucks in five years, as India’s decision to allow foreign investment in retail stores will help create more supermarkets and boost transportation of farm and factory products. Deutsche Post AG’s DHL Supply Chain last week said it would invest euro 100 million ($131 million) to strengthen operations in the country...
