* Italy - Marchionne Wants to Merge with Peugeot and Opel, Outgun VW in Europe

Milan,Italy -Carscoop, by Andrew Tsaousis -October 30, 2012: -- All mainstream European carmakers are, to a higher or lower degree, facing problems due to the debt crisis that’s storming the continent... Ford has started closing down plants, Opel and Peugeot are burning cash each day for the past eight months while they try to figure out how to work on their partnership and, as for Fiat… well, thank God that Chrysler is profitable... According to Bloomberg, the outspoken head of the Fiat Chrysler Group has approached both companies, Opel and Peugeot, again to discuss a possible tie-up...  Marchionne’s proposal is for the French to participate in a new group comprised of Opel and Fiat in exchange for stock in the new entity...  If such a deal did materialize, it would create a mega-group equal to VW in Europe: the three carmakers’ combined sales account for 25 percent of market share, a smidge higher than VW’s 24.8 percent...

* Italy - Fiat slashes targets due to languishing European sales
Milan,Italy -Reuters, By Jennifer Clark -Oct 30, 2012: -- Fiat SpA sharply cut its performance targets for the next two years, saying languishing sales in austerity-hit Europe may lop off a third of its previous projections for 2014 trading profit... The sharp downturn in Europe has forced Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne to focus on bolstering Fiat's operations on Europe instead of buying more shares in Chrysler Group LLC, the U.S. automaker in which Fiat has a 58.5 percent stake... Marchionne, who runs both Fiat and Chrysler, repeated his plans to merge the two automakers into a single car company by 2014 or 2015, but said Europe took center stage...

(Photo: The TR-X concept)
São Bernardo do Campo,SP,Brazil -Gizmag, by C.C. Weiss -October 29, 2012: -- Ever wonder what Ford's answer to the Jeep Wrangler would look like? A lot like the Wrangler itself with some Toyota FJ Cruiser thrown in, as it turns out. The Troller TR-X is a rugged 4x4 from Ford Brazil's Design Center created for the São Paulo Motor Show... Brazil has really seen some impressive utility vehicle concepts this year. The Troller TR-X joins previous reveals like the Nissan EXTREM and Volkswagen Taigun... The TR-X was designed to celebrate and communicate its rugged purpose, rather than hiding it in a pretty package a la the Land Rover DC-100. The vehicle's muscular stance, bulging hood and beefy tires convey a sense of utter disdain and impatience for paved drives – this thing is clearly meant to go where major roads don't. The green paint serves to reinforce the car's connection with the untamed wild...
