* Germany - Audi all-electric F12 “e Sport” prototype rolls out of e performance research project

Zwickau,Germany -Gizmag, by Darren Quick -October 16, 2012: -- Audi has unveiled the first vehicle to result from its three-year “e performance research project” that has just been concluded...  The project aimed to develop a scalable electric vehicle technology platform that would serve as the basis for a variety of electric-powered vehicles, from compact city cars to sedans to sports cars... The performance prototype vehicle is powered by three separate electric motors, each of which can be controlled individually. A synchronous motor at the front axle is used at slow speeds, while the two performance-optimized asynchronous motors at the rear axle join the party at higher speeds to make the e Sport a fully electric quattro. Together, the three motors produce a total of 150 kW (204 hp) and 550 Nm (405.66 lb-ft) of torque... 


* USA - GM to unveil Spark, Sonic, Cruze concepts at SEMA Show

* Brazil / Germany - BMW to Take Next Step Towards Building Brazilian Car Plant 
Rio Janeiro,RJ,Brazil -ADVFN -October 19, 2012: -- German premium-car maker BMW AG Friday welcomed the framework conditions laid out by the Brazilian government for the auto industry and will take the next step towards building a plant in the country... This year, BMW had put its Brazil investment plans on hold until details of the country's new auto industry tax regime were hammered out, saying it wanted to re-evaluate the financial viability of the scheme... The government at the end of last year effectively boosted the tax on imported cars by 30 percentage points when it increased the tax on all cars sold, but exempted auto companies with Brazilian factories... On Sept. 27, BMW sales chief, Ian Robertsontold reporters at the Paris auto show a decision for a new plant in Brazil could be made in the next few weeks...


* Japan - Nissan scraps plan for Magna to assemble new Inifiniti model

Ltd. has changed its mind and scrapped a plan to have Magna International Inc. assemble a model for its Infiniti luxury brand, Magna said Friday... * China - GAC Mitsubishi Motors starts operations in 
Changsha,Hunan,China -ABR -15 October 2012: -- GAC Mitsubishi Motors, the joint venture formed by Guangzhou Automobile, Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Corporation, has started operations in Changsha, Hunan Province, China... Guangzhou Automobile Group owns 50% stake in the joint venture, while Mitsubishi Motors holds 33% and Mitsubishi Corporation holds 17%... GMMC will produce and sell MMC cars in China, while production of the 2013 ASX compact SUV is expected to start from late October...


* India - Maruti launches new Alto 800

New Delhi,India -The Hindu -16 Oct 2012: -- Maruti Suzuki India, on Tuesday, unveiled its new Alto 800 in petrol and CNG versions. Addressing a press conference here, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Shinzo Nakanishi, said Alto had registered sales of over two million units since its launch in September 2000... Mr. Nakanishi said over 10,000 people had already booked their car without knowing its price or having gone in for a test drive...


* South Africa - Toyota Plant Halted By Supplier Strike 
 Durban,KwaZulu-Natal,SA -Automobil -October 17, 2012: -- Production at Toyota South Africa Motors’ Prospecton Plant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal has again been halted, this time following a strike by one of Toyota’s component suppliers... Members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa embarked on a protected strike at the Toyota Boshoku plant in Durban on Wednesday 17 October... Toyota Boshoku is an independent component supplier to Toyota South Africa Motors. It supplies seats and door panels for use in all locally produced vehicles... The strike was not instigated or supported by employees of Toyota South Africa Motors. The matter is being dealt with by members of Toyota Boshoku South Africa and Numsa...
