* UK - Tyres to carry performance labels
Letchworth Garden City,Hertfordshire,UK -Fleet Europe, by Tim Harrup -5 July 2012: -- The move towards further energy-efficiency transparency, already seen in cars through the compulsory publication of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and seen on household electrical equipment through ‘rating charts’ (photo), has taken another step forwards. From November of this year, all new tyres for cars, vans and trucks will also need to carry information on fuel efficiency, wet grip and rolling noise. Repair and fitting specialist Kwik-Fit has said that in anticipation of this, tyre manufacturers are introducing new ranges in order to ensure that they score well in this domain. Kwik-Fit also believes that fleet managers may change their policy of simply replacing worn-out tyres with the same model that the car was supplied with, but may look a little more deeply into the fuel efficiency cost-saving options...
* Belgium - Tyre labels-brands can now communicate
Brussels,Belgium -Fleet Business, by Claude Yvens -31 May 2012: -- From now on, tyre manufacturers are authorised to communicate on the performance of their tyres within the context of a new European labelling system. This label will be applicable to new products from July 1st 2012 and clients have to be informed in a uniform manner from November 1st... According to our information, and notwithstanding the fact that further statements may yet be made, most brands will begin their communication campaigns on July 1st for car tyres (Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin and Yokohama) and a little later for heavy truck tyres. Goodyear/Dunlop and Hankook are to start their campaigns at the beginning of June...
