* India - Truck makers step up African safari
Mumbai,India -The Hindustan Times, by Manu P Toms -July 8, 2012: -- The African journey of Indian truck-makers is set to get more crowded in the near future, with two more manufacturers set to join their established compatriots in the slugfest with Chinese companies and importers of second-hand European trucks for a share of the 50,000 units sold annually... Asia Motor Works is the latest Indian company exploring Africa. Mahindra Navistar is at present test-marketing in the continent which has long been a major export destination for Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland... Shipping trucks to Africa and west Asia has become part of growth strategy for Indian companies. Mahindra Navistar Automobile Ltd (MNAL), the medium and heavy commercial vehicle joint venture between Mahindra and Mahindra and US-based Navistar, will start exporting trucks to Africa this year... Indian medium and heavy truck and bus exports, largely to Africa and west Asia, grew by 43% to 29,272 units in the fiscal year 2010-11...
* Sweden - Volvo unveils new engine for FH truck range

Stockholm,Sweden -Automotive Business Review -6 July 2012: -- Swedish truck maker Volvo Trucks has unveiled a new six-cylinder 13-litre (D13) 460hp engine for the company’s FH range of heavy trucks, which complies with Euro 6 environmental standards... The new engine offers maximum power output of 338kw at 1400 to 1900 r/min and 2300Nm torque at 1000 to 1400 r/min... Volvo Trucks Engine Strategy and Planning, manager Mats Franzén said, the Volvo FH gets a new 460 hp Euro 6 engine optimised for fast, fuel-efficient transportation on good roads... The new engine will be powering the Volvo FH, 4x2/6x2, tractor and rigid, comprising vehicles for transport of dangerous goods (ADR) and will be offered for trucks with right-hand drive as well as left-hand drive versions...* Germany - Daimler previews new vehicles/ plans ahead of IAA show in this fall

Stuttgart,Germany -Fleet Owner -Jul. 8, 2012: -- Daimler AG underscored the company’s commitment to technology, efficiency and sustainability at an exclusive IAA preview event held here in Stuttgart last week... Vehicles displayed included a new heavy-duty delivery truck called the Mercedes-Benz Antos, a new Mercedes-Benz city van called the Citan, new transit and tour buses from Mercedes-Benz and Setra and new environmentally friendly vehicles, including the Mercedes-Benz all-electric, Vito E-Cell crewbus and the new Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid. And a Sprinter van equipped with a seven-speed, automatic transmission and enhanced ESP functions also shared the event spotlight...
