* Canberra - Trucking businesses earn $39.9 billion in 2010-11 

Canberra,ACT,Australia -ATA Friday Facts -6 July 2012: -- Australia’s trucking businesses earned $39.9 billion in 2010-11 against expenses of $35.9 billion, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics... The figures, published in Business Transport Activity, Australia, 2010-11, show that road freight businesses spent $9.3 billion on labour costs in the year and $7.7 billion on payments to contractors and other businesses for transport services... They spent $8.4 billion on running expenses, including $5.3 billion on fuel, $2.2 billion on repairs, maintenance, parts and accessories and $628 million on registration and CTP... The businesses spent $2.5 billion on capital, with vehicles accounting for $1.6 billion, or 66 per cent, of this total...


* NSW - Bulk regrigerant costs to rise 300 / 600 per cent

Eastern Creek,NSW,Australia -ATA Friday Facts -6 July 2012: -- The cost of bulk refrigerants is expected to increase 300-600 per cent as a result of the Australian Government’s carbon tax, Thermo King has warned in a notice to its customers... Thermo King is a world leader in transport refrigeration, and manufactures temperature control systems for trailers, truck bodies, buses, shipping containers and rail cars... The notice warns customers that Thermo King will be affected in two ways by the cost increase... It warns there will be an increase in pre-charged equipment import costs due to imposition of the carbon price on the refrigerant content of the machines... The notice says that purchases of new pre-charged equipment imported to Australia prior to 1 July 2012 should not incur any price increase...
