* France - Study Quantifies Factors Affecting Rolling Resistance of Heavy Trucks

Paris, Francia -Sustainable Plant -July 9, 2012: -- In 2010, global CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels rose by more than 5%, according to the International Energy Agency. At the same time, industry dedicates huge amounts of resources to reducing CO2 by just a few percentage points. However, minor adjustments to vehicles can have a surprisingly large effect on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions... Recent research by truck maker Volvo and tire manufacturer Michelin shows that a quick and simple measure can have a significant impact on emissions without the need for major outlay or new ways of working: checking and correcting the tires and wheels on your vehicle... The test program used two Volvo FH 4x2 trucks hauling fully loaded van-bodied trailers and weighing 40 tonnes gross. One rig served as a reference vehicle, the second was driven with different tires, tire pressures and varying wheel alignment settings...
