* Germany - Mercedes-Benz undercuts limits planned for 2017: A-Class petrol engines meet EURO 6 standard
Stuttgart,Germany -MB (PR) -July
13, 2012: -- A good two years before the new EURO 6 European emissions
standard is due to come into effect for all petrol-engined vehicles on
1.9.2014, the petrol engines of the new Mercedes-Benz A and B-Class have
been confirmed as already meeting the required emission limits. More
specifically, the engines also already undercut the particulate limits
which are being introduced for the first time for petrol engines... Mercedes-Benz also played a pioneering role in the
automotive industry by reducing nitrogen oxide in the exhaust emissions
of diesel passenger cars and trucks with the introduction of BlueTEC
technology... Thanks to advanced Mercedes-Benz technology, the
direct-injection petrol engines in the A 180, A 200 and A 250, as well
as in the corresponding models in the B-Class, have succeeded in
undercutting the new standard since start of production, and as such
even undercut the extremely strict particle number limit of 6 x 1011 per
km, which will not become compulsory until the second stage of EURO 6
from 2017...
* Michigan / USA - Ford's European car sales drop 10%
Dearborn,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Karl Henkel -July 14, 2012: -- Ford Motor Co.'s sales fell 10 percent in traditional European markets during the first half of 2012, falling in line with the weakest automobile demand there since 1994... Ford sales in June dropped 16.1 percent to close the first half; the Dearborn automaker sold 617,600 vehicles in 19 European markets during the first six months of the year... Though it remains the second-best selling brand in Europe, concern regarding the European debt crisis, high unemployment and low consumer confidence continues... Ford is banking on new products like the B-Max and the new Fiesta and Transit Custom to refresh its European lineup heading into 2013...Turin,Italy -The Detroit News, by Bryce G. Hoffman -July 14, 2012: -- As automobile sales in its home market continue to decline, Fiat SpA is hoping that increasing demand for its products in the United States will help keep its factories humming... Last month, car sales in Italy plummeted more than 24 percent, and Fiat's sales were down by more than 23 percent. The rest of Europe is struggling, too... Sergio Marchionne, chairman and CEO of Fiat and Auburn Hills-based Chrysler Group LLC, says the current situation is unsustainable... The only alternative is to close another factory, Marchionne said... Fiat shuttered a plant in Sicily last year, and Marchionne has been calling on Italian unions to accept concessions on work rules similar to those already negotiated with the United Auto Workers in an effort to make the company's factories more competitive. But workers in Italy continue to resist these and other cost-cutting moves...
* Argentine - Honda starts exporting City sedans to Brazil
Tokyo,Japan -Kyodo News -July 13, 2012: -- Honda Motor Co. said Friday its Argentina arm has started exporting to Brazil the fuel-flexible vehicle City capable of running on gasoline and ethanol mixed in any proportion, marking the first time that Honda's Argentinian-made vehicles have been shipped outside the local market... Honda Motor de Argentina S.A., based in Buenos Aires, began exporting the sedan on Tuesday. It began manufacturing the vehicle in March 2011 with an eye to shipping 6,500 units worth a combined $150 million by the yearend, the company said...

* DC / USA - 2011-2013 Volvo S80 Recalled For Transmission Software Glitch

Washington,DC,USA -The Car Connection, by Richard Read -Jul 13, 2012: -- Volvo is recalling S80 sedans from the 2011-2013 model years. At issue is a problem with the transmission, which could cause the vehicle to stall in traffic... According to a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the problem is linked to a software flaw that can prevent the transmission from downshifting. When decelerating or coasting, that could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the potential for a crash... In all, some 1,469 vehicles are included in the Volvo recall...
* DC / USA - Ford recalling 10K Escapes for braking issue

Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -July 14, 2012: -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 10,000 redesigned 2013 Escape SUVs because mispositioned carpet padding may lead to interference with braking... The recall covers 8,266 Escapes in the U.S. and 2,193 in Canada... The Escapes being recalled were built at the Louisville Assembly Plant from March 8 through June 7... Ford said in early June, an employee noted the space between the brake pedal and the center console left-side trim panel which may result in the driver contacting the edge of the brake pedeal while transferring the foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal...
