The Japanese firm said it had agreed a token price with the VDL group in exchange for keeping the plant running... Mitsubishi said last year it was stopping production at the plant at the end of this year, giving rise to fears 1,500 jobs would be lost... On Tuesday, BMW confirmed it would start producing its popular Mini cars at the Dutch plant... * France - Sevelnord production to end 2016. Peugeot to buy out Fiat venture

Paris,France -AFP/The Hindu (India) -July 12, 2012: -- French auto manufacturer Peugeot said on Wednesday that it would take over Fiat’s stake in its Sevelnord joint production venture in northern France... Sevelnord would, however, continue to produce light commercial vehicles for the two groups until the end of 2016... The move comes after PSA entered a global alliance with U.S. auto giant General Motors in February aimed at slashing costs for both and boosting their competitiveness in Europe... Union sources said in March that PSA was in talks with Toyota of Japan on joint production at Sevelnord, but, on Wednesday, a union said there was no partner in sight... Struggling PSA has said it planned to trim its workforce by 4,000 this year as it tried to reduce overcapacity amid a major slowdown in car sales in Europe linked to the eurozone debt crisis...
