* CV manufacturers focus on driver training to raise skilled truck force

Guindy,Chennai,India -My Digital FC, by G Balachandar -Jul 11 2012: -- Commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturers, both incumbent and new entrants, are boosting their driver training programmes and safety initiatives in the light of poor availability of skilled truck drivers and roll out of new platform of vehicles... The trucking industry has been facing severe shortage of trained drivers, as there is fading interest to take up the truck driving profession among the younger generation. With increasing goods transport by road, shortage of truckers has started impacting the trucking and logistics industry. CV makers have been coming out with new schemes and training programmes to make the profession attractive besides improving efficiency and productivity... Country’s second biggest CV firm Ashok Leyland, a pioneer in driver engagement initiatives, has been laying stronger thrust on programmes and initiatives for truck driving. AL plans five more driver training institutes to take the total number to seven. Three units are to go stream in this fiscal at Chindwara (Madhya Pradesh), Rajasmand (Rajasthan) and at Khaital (Haryana), while two institutes are under construction in Bangalore and at Chatia (near Bhubaneswar, Orissa)...
