* Michigan - Chrysler to invest $198M in Detroit Mack Avenue plant

Auburn Hills,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Bryce G. Hoffman -July 24, 2012: -- Chrysler Group LLC is considering investing nearly $198 million at its Mack Avenue I Engine Plant in Detroit, a move that could create as many as 250 jobs at the factory. That would more than double the number of hourly jobs at the plant, which now employees 144 workers. The automaker said it would use that money to add production of its Pentastar engine. The 1.4-million-square-foot plant currently produces the 4.7-liter V-8 engines for the Ram 1500 pickup. Chrysler already produces Pentastar V-6 motors in Trenton, and in Saltillo, Mexico...

Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -July 24, 2012: -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening investigations into more than 335,000 Chrysler vehicles, including reports of fires in Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs... In documents posted Monday on its website, the agency said it has launched preliminary probes into 106,803 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokees because leaking power steering fluid hoses may have caused fires, and 230,000 2009-10 Dodge Ram 1500 pickups because of a failure in the differential that can cause the rear wheels to lock up... NHTSA said it has reports of two fires in Jeep Grand Cherokees since May, and a third report of leaking power steering fluid that led to loss of power steering... A Jeep Grand Cherokee with 35 miles on the odometer was consumed by a blaze June 13... The fires may be the result of faulty power steering hoses that allow fluid to leak onto hot engine components, NHTSA said. In one fire, an owner said he saw fluid leaking in his driveway before the Jeep caught fire...

* India - Toyota to start engine production at Bangalore plant in August 
Bangalore,India -ABR -23 July 2012: -- Toyota Kirloskar, a joint venture between Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor and India’s Kirloskar Systems, is planning to begin the engine production at its manufacturing facility in Bangalore, India in August 2012... The JV will manufacture about 100,000 engines and 240,000 transmission units from the facility in Bangalore... In 2011, Toyota Kirloskar had revealed that it would invest INR5bn ($89.47m) to build an engine plant and expand its transmissions unit to cater its Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback... Toyota has already begun exporting its Etios and Liva and about 1500 units had already been shipped to South Africa from Ennore Port in Tamil Nadu...


 * Germany - Mercedes-Benz to increase capacity in India 
Stuttgart,BAV,Germany -ABR -23 July 2012: -- German carmaker Mercedes-Benz is planning to invest INR4bn ($71.5m) over next few years to improve the capacity of its manufacturing plant in India by three times... According to the carmaker, the additional investment will bring the carmaker's investment in Indian sub-division to more than INR10bn ($178.94m)... The additional investment will allow the company to increase its production capacity from the current 10,000 models per year to nearly 25,000-30,000 units per year by 2014-2015, which will support at least six products to its existing CKD operations...
