YRC Worldwide regional carrier Holland plans to hire 450 truck drivers to meet rising shipper demand for next-day less-than-truckload service... Holland is the largest carrier in YRC Worldwide’s regional group, which also includes New Penn Motor Express in the Northeast and Reddaway in the West... The regional group increased its revenue per hundredweight or yield 4.5 percent in the quarter as total tonnage rose 5.2 percent and shipments 3.5 percent...
* Michigan - Con-way Freight to Hike Tariff Pricing 6.9 Percent

Con-way Freight will raise its non-contract rates 6.9 percent on average July 9, becoming the third less-than-truckload carrier to announce a rate hike... FedEx Freight, the largest standalone U.S. LTL carrier, and ABF Freight System earlier this month announced general rate increases averaging 6.9 percent... The rate increases, which only cover non-contract shipments, signal that LTL carriers are willing to push for higher rates despite an uncertain economy... Despite slow economic growth, demand for trucking services is increasing, and truckload and LTL capacity is tightening, putting more pressure on pricing...
