* Japan - Toyota to ship French-built Yaris to U.S. 
Nagoya,Shuzuoka,Japon -The Detroit News (USA) -June 22, 2012:  --Toyota Motor Corp. will start producing Yaris subcompacts at a French plant for export to North America next year.Toyota, which has an assembly plant in Valenciennes in northern France, said it expected to ship 25,000 Yaris cars a year to the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico starting in May 2013. Toyota said this was the first time it was shipping cars to North America from Europe. European auto sales are shrinking amid generally declining economic conditions.Toyota is also trying to reduce exports of vehicles from Japan because of the yen's strength...


* Michigan - GM expands Russia plant

Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -June 23, 2012: -- General Motors Co. said Friday it began an expansion to more than double capacity at its manufacturing plant in St. Petersburg, Russia, part of a $1 billion investment in Russia over the next five years... The Detroit automaker said annual production capacity at the factory, known as GM Auto, will grow to 230,000 by 2015 from 98,000 vehicles today... The $1 billion investment includes boosting production at GM-AvtoVAZ, its joint venture in Togliatti, Russia, to 120,000 vehicles a year by 2015 and expanding engineering in Russia to develop products for the local market... GM wouldn't say how much will be spent to expand GM Auto, which builds the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Astra. The expansion will boost employment at the plant to 4,000 workers from 2,500, the company said...
