* Sweden - Volvo To Start Production Of New Truck In 4Q
Stockholm,Sweden -Dow Jones Newswires/Fox Business -14 May 2012: -- Swedish truck maker Volvo AB is planning to start production of a new truck in its FH series in the fourth quarter of this year... The company also plans to manufacture a common series of cabs for its Renault, Mack and Volvo brands, the newspaper said, adding that the total investment will be around 10 billion Swedish kronor ($1.43 billion)... Dagens Industri said the new truck will be presented in September, before the IAA truck fair in Hannover. The newspaper added that according to Volvo suppliers, the company has started to adjust its cab factory in Umea to start production of the new truck cab in the fourth quarter...
* India - Volvo may source components from Indian joint venture
Kolkata,India -Business Standard -May 14, 2012: -- World’s leading truck-maker Volvo is mulling to source auto components for global market from its Indian joint venture, VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV)... The Sweden-based Volvo Group is exploring the possibilities as it wants to take advantage of the low-cost manufacturing in India... VECV has already a component manufacturing plant in Dewas (Madhya Pradesh) and a second plant is under construction in the adjacent area... The Volvo group has already expressed its intent to source engine from VECV’s upcoming engine plant in Pithampur. It will be the global hub for producing engines which go into Volvo group’s trucks and buses worldwide... VECV, an equal joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, has been in operation since 2008. The venture was set up to manufacture the complete range of Eicher trucks and buses, its components and engineering design services businesses as well as sales and distribution business of Volvo trucks within India...
* India - AMW aims to sell 50k trucks a year
Mumbai,India -The Financial Express, by Debabrata Das -May 12, 2012: -- India’s third largest manufacturer of heavy commercial vehicles, Asia Motor Works (AMW), aims to increase its annual sales five-fold to 50,000 trucks per annum in the next three years, but the plan hinges on a revival in manufacturing activity that will push truck sales. In the 2012 fiscal, the truckmaker sold 10,000 units, an increase of 50% over the previous year... AMW, which makes medium to heavy vehicles, ranging from the 16-tonne category to 49 tonne, launched 11 new products last year. Commercial vehicle sales in India grew 9.5% to 3,49,387 units in fiscal 2012, industry body Indian Foundation of Transport Research said...
