* Sweden - Scania delivers its first Euro 6
Södertälje,Sweden -Truck Business, by Claude Yvens -21 March 2012: -- Scania announces that it has begun delivery of its first vehicles to meet Euro 6. The first Scania Euro 6 was delivered to the Netherlands, closely followed by Sweden and Switzerland. These trucks can now be registered as Euro 6. Scania also welcomes the decision by the German government to extend to Euro 6 support programs for investment in clean vehicles. Discussions are also underway to create a category of differentiated LKW maut for Euro 6...
* Italy - Fiat tops emissions league again
Milan,Italy -Fleet Europe, by Tim Harrup -20 March 2012: -- Statistics collected and published by Jato Dynamics (UK), show that Italian manufacturer Fiat Group once again (for the fifth consecutive year) has the lowest average CO2 emissions across the range. The Fiat brand registered average emissions of 118.2 grams over the year 2011, 4.9 grams down on 2010. Over the group as a whole (which in particular includes Alfa Romeo and Lancia), the emissions level stands at 123.3 grams, which is substantially below the European Union’s 2015 target of 130 grams for the industry. Amongst the top twenty best selling brands in Europe, Alfa Romeo made the best progress over the year, now occupying fifth place with 127.8 grams per km...
* Germany - Daimler sees enormous opportunities in BRIC truck market
Stuttgart,Germany -Reuters/The Economic Times (India) -Mar 19, 2012: -- Daimler Trucks, the world's largest commercial vehicles maker by revenue, sees "enormous" potential for further growth in emerging markets that will come on top of its forecasts for double-digit sales gains in coming years... The maker of the Mercedes-Benz Actros long-haul lorry reaffirmed o n Monday its strategic target of increasing vehicle sales to half a million next year, excluding alliances with its partners in China and Russia - a figure that will eventually rise to 700,000 in 2020...
* China - Foton selects West Maharashtra for Rs 1,676-cr plant
Mumbai,India -Deccan Herald -21 March 2012: -- China's largest commercial vehicle maker Beiqi Foton plans to invest Rs 1,676 crore for a one-lakh units per annum plant in India and plans to launch its first product in the lucrative domestic market by 2013... The manufacturing facility, the company's first outside mainland China, will be located in Western Maharashtra and it has already zeroed in on three potential sites for the plant... The USD 400-million investment by Foton, which produced seven lakh vehicles last year, will be the highest foreign direct investment by a Chinese company in India and the company is exploring options to sell light, medium and heavy trucks in India, the company's Executive Vice-President for India Operations, R Shankar, said...
* India - Trucks set to cost more as OEMs pass on duty hike
Chennai,India -My Digital FC, by G Balachandar -Mar 19, 2012: -- Commercial vehicles are to cost more as the truck manufacturers in the country have decided to pass on the increase in excise duty, announced in the Budget 2012-13, immediately... Though it was a mixed Budget for the CV industry, the vehicles and their parts are set to become costlier with the increase in excise duty from 10 per cent to 12 per cent... Tata Motors has already announced an increase in the prices of its commercial vehicles along with passenger vehicles, proportionate to the increase in the corresponding excise duty announced in the Budget... Other truck makers such as VE Commercial Vehicle may follow suit...
* Tanzania: Chinese Firm to Make Trucks Locally
Dar es Salaam,Tanzania -All Africa/Tanzania Daily News, by Abduel Elinaza -21 March 2012: -- China Heavy Duty Truck Group (SinoTruck) has shown interest of building an assembly plant in Dar es Salaam to cater the growing needs for heavy duty vehicles in East Africa and beyond... At the moment the China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, located in Jinan city, Shandong Province, sold between 500 and 600 heavy duty trucks to Tanzania per year... SinoTruck principal products include cargo trucks and truck chassis with gross vehicle weight of over 14 tonnes as well as semi-tractor trucks with trailing capacity over 12 tonnes, tipper and special truck chassis. The major product series include Howo, Sitaier King, Sitaier and Huanghe series...
