* Brazil - Backs off on taxes on imported vehicles
Brasilia,DF,Brazil -Business Week -17 Feb 2012: -- Brazil in March will ease a tax increase charged on imported cars for automakers investing to build local assembly plants, the government’s chief industrial policy maker said... The surcharge of as much as 30 percent was implemented last month, amid protests from Chinese automakers, to stem a surge of imported cars being sold in Latin America’s largest economy. While the details of how the roll back will be applied have not been finalized, companies that may benefit include Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Co from China and Germany’s Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, both of which have announced plans to invest in Brazil...
* Germany - Daimler, Foton To Start Producing Trucks In China In Third Quarter
Frankfurt,Germany –Dow Jones Newswires/Fox Business -February 18, 2012: -- Daimler AG's Chinese truck joint venture with Beiqi Foton Motor Co. will produce its first vehicle in the third quarter this year, the German auto maker said Saturday... The 50-50 joint venture, called Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., will produce trucks for the medium- and heavy-duty segments... The BFDA joint venture is based in the Foton Auman facility in Beijing's Huairou district and will have an annual production capacity of 160,000 trucks... Daimler's truck division is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles by revenue, and contributed to the Stuttgart-based firm's recent earnings growth. The division comprises the Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Western Star and Fuso brands, and includes light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks as well as special-purpose vehicles, such as those for construction sites...
* Bulgaria: Great Wall to open JV plant on 21 Feb

Lovech, Bulgaria -Wikipedia -February 17, 2012: -- Chinese vehicle manufacturer Great Wall Motor will officially open its joint venture plant in Bulgaria on 21 February 2012. The OEM will operate the plant in a joint venture with local company Litex Motors. Great Wall has built a production base in the town of Lovech, Bulgaria... The plant will initially have a production capacity of 8,000 cars per year, but it is planned to rise to a full capacity of 50,000 per year by 2015, when it will be expected employ a number of 2,000 people. Total value of the investment rises up to 4 million euro. The models that will be produced at the new plant are Voleex C10, Steed 5 and Hover H5, and during 2012 the Voleex C30 and Voleex C20R will also be added to the range...Labels: truckmakers news worldwide
