* Tyre theft, havoc on the roads...

Johannesburg,S. Africa -Fleet Watch -Nov 2011: -- Tyre theft is a huge problem on the N3 from Johannesburg right down to Durban and drivers who do not get money from their owners to park in secure places are having to pay for the losses. This is unfair says our driver correspondent who also tells of the increasing havoc on our roads... I recently came through the Villiers toll gate and noticed a truck parked next to the road on the Durban side where the drivers pull over to rest. I stopped to do a check on my load and tyres and noticed that the parked truck had its wheels missing... Two wheels had been stolen and the driver said he would have to pay for them. I then asked him why he hadn’t parked in the truck stop at Villiers and he replied that the company doesn’t have an account for parking at the truck stop. And he doesn’t get money from the company for safe parking... Also, he told me that at this company, the driver has to pay for any damages caused by the driver - including an accident if it’s the drivers fault. According to the driver of this truck, another driver had to pay for a trailer that he damaged by accident and the company deducted money off his pay for four years to pay for the damages caused...Labels: tire thefs
