* Germany - Mercedes new commercial van: The Citan

Stuttgart,Germany -Gizmag -February 4, 2012: -- Mercedes-Benz is to launch a new urban delivery van later this year named the Citan, the little brother to the Sprinter and Vito. The Citan will be first seen at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover in September. The new van will be available with petrol, diesel and electric drivetrains, and with panelvan, crewbus and mixed use bodies, and in a variety of lengths and weights...  Mercedes strategy behind the large number of variants is to make the new urban delivery van suited for a broad range of commercial applications. Everything about the Citan is standard Mercedes Benz quality, and all variants of which come with ESP as standard...


* Russia - Hino Motors tests trucks for extreme cold in

Vladivostok,Russia -Kyodo/The Japan Times -Feb. 5, 2012: -- Hino Motors Ltd. is testing trucks that can withstand extreme cold in a bid to expand sales in the Russian market, company officials said Saturday... Since late January, Hino Motors has been conducting testing in Magadan in Russia's Far East — where the mercury can plunge to minus 50 degrees — and is planning to launch the cold-weather trucks around 2015... Three trucks ranging from small to large have been shipped from Japan for the test runs. They have double-glazed windshields and insulated piping from the fuel tank to the engine, as well as a specially designed interior heating apparatus...  Hino Motors is hoping to woo customers who need to deliver precision parts and food supplies by promoting the reliability of the "Japan-made" trucks...


* Italy - S&P threatens Fiat downgrade on weak auto market

Milan,Italy -AFP -6 Feb 2012:  --   Italy's Fiat has been hit by weak markets in Europe and Brazil and reliance on its US partner Chrysler, Standard & Poor's ratings agency warned Monday as it threatened to downgrade the auto giant... Stock in Fiat and truck maker Fiat Industrial fell sharply over the announcement, with their shares dropping by more than two percent while the benchmark FTSE Mib index in Milan was down 0.3 percent... Fiat, which also owns luxury car makers Ferrari and Maserati, is Italy's biggest private sector employer and has a workforce of 200,000 worldwide... The company is also important component of the industrial structure in Italy, the eurozone's third largest economy and a major world exporter...
