* Pennsylvania - Demand for Trailers on the Rise, Survey Says

Allentown, PENN,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -Feb 3, 2012: --   Transport operators may be planning to purchase more trailers in the first quarter of 2012, as stronger than usual freight shipments spur demand for capacity... For-hire, private and government fleets in the U.S. are increasing their planned trailer purchases, according to a report from CK Commercial Vehicle Research...  The first quarter 2012 Fleet Sentiment Buying Index rose 4.6 percent from the fourth quarter, largely because of short range plans to add trailer equipment...  Forty-five percent of the respondents planned trailer orders, and the volume of those orders more than doubled from the fourth quarter survey, CKCVR said...  Trailer orders climbed 38 percent from 2010 last year, according to ACT Research...


* Georgia - Great Dane plant hits 100,000th trailer milestone

Savannah,GA,USA -Truck News -Feb 3, 2012: -- Great Dane's manufacturing facility in Terre Haute, Ind. has recently completed its 100,000th trailer. The plant celebrated the milestone with a ceremony and press conference Feb. 1...  Great Dane's 565,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility in Terre Haute started up in April 1995 with a single production line. A second line was added a few months later to keep up with demand, according to the company. Nearly 2,700 trailers were completed during the first year of operation...  Today, Great Dane's Terre Haute plant employs more than 450 people and builds more than 8,000 trailers annually for some of the nation's largest fleets, including Estes Express, UPS and Celadon Group. The 100,000th trailer to come off the line was an all-new Champion CP freight van built especially for Celadon...


* Missouri - Xtra Lease adding over 9,000 new trailers

St. Louis,MISS,USA -Penton Media/Fleet Owner -Feb 6, 2012: -- Describing the transactions as refreshing its fleet, Xtra Lease has ordered some 9,400 new van and reefer trailers for 2012. Equipped with fuel-saving aerodynamic side skirts, the new trailers will replace many older model trailers that will be re-designated as local cartage or storage trailers, or sold, said Xtra Lease... Since 2010, Xtra Lease said it has invested heavily in new trailer orders, making late-model equipment accessible to trucking companies and shippers via rental and leasing programs... To keep its inventory updated, the company has ordered nearly 25,000 trailers over the past 2.5 years. In addition, the trailer lessor is refurbishing approximately 1,000 flatbeds to restore them to like-new condition...
