* Germany / Sweden - VW dismisses doubts over MAN, Scania tie-up


Frankfurt,GERM/Stockholm,SWE -Reuters, by Jan Schwartz and Patrick Lannin/Edward Taylor/Dan Lalor/Andrew Callus -Jan 13, 2012: -- Volkswagen still aims for closer ties between its truckmaking subsidiaries MAN of Germany and Sweden's Scania, the companies said on Friday, denying a report that highlighted a lack of progress and said the plan had been dropped...  The four areas of cooperation being looked at were: axles, gearboxes, commodity purchasing and joint research on hybrid components for heavy trucks and buses...  Scania, with its main markets in Europe and Latin America, including Brazil, has one of the highest profitability levels in the business, with operating profit as a percentage of sales coming in at 15 percent for the first nine months of 2011...  Relations between Scania and MAN, frosty after the failed takeover, have been warming up under VW's control...


* Brazil - Paccar joins the Brazil carry trade

Bellevue,WA,USA -Beyond BRICS, by Joe Leahy -January 11, 2012: -- Paccar, announced a $200m plant to build its DAF heavy vehicles in Ponta Grossa, in Brazil’s southern Paraná state... Brazil’s truck industry is one of the world’s most promising. New vehicle registrations of locally made and imported heavy trucks rose 2.2 per cent last year compared with a year earlier and up to 16.9 per cent for semi-heavy and lighter vehicles... But the market, which features all of the major producers from Scania to Ford, MAN, Mercedes-Benz and Iveco, had a tough time in the final stages of last year. New vehicle registrations, locally built and imported, fell 20.8 per cent for heavy trucks in December compared with a year earlier and were lower for most other categories...


* Germany - New special edition Caddy introduced by Volkswagen

 Wofsburg,Germany -Transport Engineer (UK), by John Challen -11 Jan 2012: -- The Volkswagen Caddy has its first ever special edition, the Match... Caddy Match will be available until 30 April 2012, and features a number of additions, such as air conditioning, Bluetooth, electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors, and cruise control...  VW's Match trim is now available for both the standard Caddy and the long wheelbase Caddy Maxi (except 4Motion and EcoFuel models)...


* Holland - Super lean and green ATe cloggie artics from DAF save fuel and the environment


Eindhoven,The Netherlands -Commercial Motor (UK), by Brian Weatherley -10 January 2012: -- DAF have got in on the ‘lean and green’ tractor act with special 'ATe' (that’s short or Advanced Transport Efficiency) versions of their CF85 and XF105 artics...  The new models come with a complete aerodynamic package of roof spoilers and side fenders, combined with side skirts as standard along with low rolling resistance 315/70R22.5 tyres which also lower the vehicle height and to further decrease air resistance. The AS-Tronic auto in the CF85 and XF105 ATe tractors also comes with a revised shift strategy to help lower consumption...  The new CF85 and XF105 ATe come with the latest 12.9-litre PACCAR MX engine which delivers 340 kW/460 hp with the ultra–clean EEV model, and includes the enhancements that have recently been made to these engines...  DAF is the first in the truck industry to use encapsulation not only for the turbo charger but also for the exhaust manifold unit. This results in improved air management thanks to the greater efficiency of the turbo. The enhancements to the PACCAR MX engine result in around 3% lower fuel consumption and a reduction in CO2 emissions, depending on the conditions and application...


* India - AMW planning to launch new truck models in next six months

Bhuj,Gujarat,India -Wheels Unplugged -11 Jan 2012:  --  The truck maker Asia Motor Works (AMW) is now reportedly planning to roll out the new models in next six months... The 4928 TR tractor is a 49-tonne tractor gets a new cabin and is powered by a 270 PS, common-rail, electronically controlled, Cummins diesel engine, mated to a nine-speed Eaton gearbox. On the other hand, the 2528 TP tipper also gets a new cabin and the same engine but with a 9-speed ZF transmission... Keeping the premium range in mind, cabins of both the truck models are equipped with GPS navigation system, LED screen for entertainment and sleeping berth for the driver...


* China - GINAF goes Chinese! Dutch specialist multi-axle truck maker sold to far East

Shanghai,SHA,China -Biglorryblog/Commercial Motor (UK) -10 January 2012: -- CHTC, part of the Chinese Hi-Tech Group Corporation (CHTGC), has taken over Dutch specialist maker GINAF, which was declared bankrupt last month. The Chinese company, which already has bus, light and heavy commercial vehicle interests, expects to relaunch GINAF early this year and intends to maintain the brand and continue development and production in line with the course GINAF had already set...
