* UK Mail revenue and profits up in first half of 2010

London,UK -Road Transport, by Christopher Walton -18 November 2010: -- UK Mail saw overall revenues and profit rise in the six months ending 30 September as slight losses in its pallets business were outweighed by gains in its parcels, mail and courier divisions...  Overall group revenue rose by 1.3% to £190.7m, compared to £188.2m in the same period in 2009. Pre-tax profit was up by 4.8% to £7.4m, on £7m a year ago...  Mail revenues were up by 1.5% to £85.9m (£84.6m in H1 2009), while parcels revenues rose by 1.3% to £81m (£80m in H1 2009). Pallets revenue dropped by 4,2% to £14.3m, compared to £14.9 in the first half of 2009. The company said the pallets business was most exposed to current economic conditions but improving efficiencies in the division had led to higher operating margins (6.3% on 5.5% a year ago) on a reduced turnover...  Guy Buswell, chief executive officer of UK Mail, says its mail division is targeting revenue growth progression in the second half, as it benefited from new customer wins and growth in packets...
