TRUCKING STATISTICS * USA - Freight Index Falls 5.2 Percent in October
Drop in Cass Index from previous month puts peak shipping in the past
Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online -Nov 2, 2010: -- The Cass Freight Index for U.S. shipments fell 5.2 percent in October from the month before, dipping to its lowest point in three months... The reading in the closely watched measure of domestic shipping demand also came as shipping expenditures slipped from September, the latest signal of a halting recovery this year from a steep 2009 downturn... The Cass index for shipments expanded 14.9 percent over October 2009, at the tail end of the downturn. But the sequential slide also left the shipments index at its lowest level since July and suggested the peak shipping season was sputtering to a close... The separate index for freight expenditures slipped 2.7 percent in October from September, when that measure hit its high point for 2010. * NAFTA Surface Trade Gains 25.3% in August
Washington,DC,USA -Transport Topics -3 Nov 2010: -- Surface transportation trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico rose 25.3% in August from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation said Wednesday... Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners increased to $68 billion year-over-year, DOT’s Bureau of Trade Statistics said in its monthly report... Freight trade value rose 10.9% from July but was 5.9% below the level of August 2010... U.S.-Canada trade improved 21.1% to $39.9 billion and the value of truck imports to the U.S. rose 23.2%, while truck exports gained 19.8%... U.S.-Mexico trade jumped 31.7% to $28.1 billion, with the value of truck imports 29.1% higher than a year ago. U.S. truck exports soared 30.6%... Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. Almost 90% of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves by land...
