Gotheborg,Sweden -HGV Ireland -November 4, 2010 ... They plan to use it next spring to beat the world speed record for the standing kilometre and behind the wheel is Swedish truck racing ace, Boije Ovebrink... To understand how he can make this claim with such confidence, we need to rewind to November 2007. Ovebrink had just beaten his own standing kilometre record from 2001 for trucks with a maximum displacement of 16 litres. He achieved this by reaching an average speed of 158.829 km/h with his red Volvo NH16 – a.k.a. ‘The Wild Viking’. After winning he met Staffan Jufors, President and CEO of Volvo Trucks, who asked him, “Do you plan to sit down and twiddle your thumbs now, enjoying the fame that comes with being world champion or do you have any new ideas?” Ovebrink replied: “I’d like to build the world’s fastest hybrid truck” ...
* Russia - Kamaz posts H1 net loss 0.4 bln roubles
Moscow,Russia -Reuters, by Jessica Bachman & Toni Vorobyova -Nov 1, 2010: -- Russian truck maker Kamaz posted a net loss of 0.4 billion roubles ($13.37 million) in the first half of 2010 compared with a loss of 1.8 billion roubles in the same period last year, the company said on Monday... The truck maker, 11 percent owned by Germany's Daimler, also said its revenues grew to 31.9 billion roubles ($1.07 billion) in the first six months of the year from 25.4 billion roubles in the first half of 2009...
* Holland - DAF sees market boost
Eindhoven,The Netherlands -Logistic Manager -1 November 2010: -- The strengthening commercial vehicle market helped DAF parent group Paccar push its net income for the first nine months to $287.8 million compared to $65.8m in 2009... Overall, the group, which makes Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks in the US, saw sales rise to $7.24 billion for the first three quarters compared to $5.85bn in 2009...
