GREEN TRUCKS * Belgium - TNT unveils cyclocargo's
Brussels,Belgium -Smart Mobility Management -22 Oct 2010: -- TNT has just unveiled the latest stage of its ambitious ‘Planet Me’ scheme, designed to reduce CO2 emissions by 45% by the year 2020, and aiming to be the first ‘zero emissions’ transport company in time. Yesterday’s launch revealed the cyclocargo ‘moped’ tricycles, to be used for inner city deliveries and forming part of the ‘City Logistics’ programme, which will also see mobile depots (trucks and trailers) locating at peripheral locations and enabling the cyclocargos to make the final delivery. TNT’s partner in this cyclocargo initiative is Ecopostale, a Belgian zero emissions logistics company, which also uses these vehicles, along with bikes. The pilot scheme operated by TNT in Brussels will see just one bike now, with two or three more following in January. Eventually, the scheme will be rolled out to other European cities. Once he had been shown the controls for the electrical assistance (photo), TNT Managing Director Belgium, Karl Moeremans, covered the first few metres in the cyclocargo, which can carry 180 kg (driver included) and 1.5 m³ of merchandise...
