TRAILER MAKERS * Europe - How the SOMI trailer works
It's as simple as 1,2,3!!! ... See it at the ECO2 Show
London,EN,UK -BigLorryBlog -November 12, 2010: -- They say a picture is worth a thousand words--and it certainly makes for an easier description of how the SOMI (Same outside more inside) trailer works... There is a new version, offering an extra 31% carrying capacity (compared with a conventional 13.6m trailer) about to hit the streets, produced by SOMI's long-time trailer-making partner Paneltex--and you can see it at the ECO2 Show at Earls Court in London from the 16-18th. The key to it is the clever use of the space between the landing legs and front axle so here's how it works...
Stage 1: Load the trailer up to the rear doors, pushing the button triggers the onboard PLC which controls the whole operation. The two rear nested decks rise, the uppermost deck engages in the rolling wall...
Now Stage 2: The middle 'well' deck is slightly raised clearing the locks. Its air bag is emptied under control, lowering this deck to the floor. Next the uppermost deck automatically travels forward, slowing and stopping at the correct position.
Lastly, the rear lower lifting deck relocates at loading height, leaving the rear-most deck able to take more pallets--in this case you can carry 34 'UK' pallets or 42 Euro-pallets or 84 roll cages...
And the whole thing can be monitored in real-time via the external mnitor you see here. SOMI doesn't make the trailer itself, ratrher it suppliers kits and a unique licence to third-party body-builder and trailer makers like Paneltex...
