HOS * USA - Shipper Group Seeks Release of Driver Work Rule

NASSTRAC calls on White House to make hours of service proposal public

Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -Nov 11, 2010: -- A shipper organization wants the Obama administration to release rewritten hours-of-service rules for truck drivers, kept under wraps since July...  NASSTRAC, which says it would oppose a reduction in the number of hours a driver can work each day, says it's time for the public to review any proposed changes...  The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration sent draft HOS rules to the White House Office of Management and Budget July 26 for a 90-day review...  That review was extended, and the final rule has yet to be published in the Federal Register. Under a court order, the rule must be published by July 26, 2011...  Under rules in place since 2003, truckers may drive 11 consecutive hours a day. The new proposed rule is widely expected to cut driving time to 10 hours or less...  That could have a profound impact on motor carrier operations and shipper distribution networks, and dramatically increase demand for truck drivers...
