TAXES * USA / California - Air district's DMV fine will hurt valley families
Bakersfield,CAL,USA -Bakersfield.com, by LEE PERSINGER -Nov 2, 2010: -- The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District has struck again, this time to the tune of an additional $12 tax to be added to the existing $7 tax and attached to our vehicle registrations. Of course, this tax only applies to valley residents... The members of the valley air district board are the largest collection of gutless wonders I have ever seen. They are terrified to go after the refineries, or the trucking industry and train industries because of their unions. They are unwilling to try to do anything about taxing the thousands of vehicles that travel through the valley on Interstate 5 or Highway 99 every day and don't live in the valley. So all that's left for these gutless wonders to do is tax the people who can afford it the least and feel safe in the knowledge that these people cannot afford to fight back... According to The Californian, Kern County's unemployment rate is 15 percent. There are hundreds of families losing their homes; they can't afford to put food on their tables for their kids or afford health insurance. If any of these people want to drive a car to look for work, they are going to be taxed a total of $19 in addition to their regular state registration fees. I don't know how people as despicable as the valley air district board members can sleep at night... (Photo from dbtechno: San Joaquin valley dust)
