TRAILER MAKERS * Canada - Wolf leading truck safety pack
Wolf Trailer Company is on a roll ... Or rather, it is on an anti-roll
Vernon,BC,Canada -The Vernon Morning Star, by Graeme Corbett -September 18, 2010: -- After three long years of research and development, the Vernon-based company is on the verge of beginning production on its roll-coupled trailer hitch, something that is set to revolutionize trucking safety and productivity, simultaneously... Larry Wulff, who heads the company’s research and development, is calling roll-couple technology the most significant improvement in the trucking industry in the last 80 years... Traditionally, trucks pulling pony trailers, quad full trailers and A-trains have been attached using pintle hitches, but Wulff said they do nothing to prevent trailers from rolling over in situations where drivers are forced to take evasive maneuvers when driving on highways... Truck and trailer combinations using Wolf’s roll-couple hitches can’t roll independent of one another, meaning a rollover is less likely to happen... He noted some existing trailers would not be able to be retrofitted because they might not be capable of withstanding the extra stresses involved with using a roll-coupled hitch. But he added the money earned from hauling increased payloads would likely pay the trailer off within a year... Wulff said New Zealand is currently looking at revising its regulations to adopt the roll-coupling technology, and he expects Australia, with its performance-based standards, will soon follow suit...
