Daimler board member and trucks chief, Andreas Renschler, told Reuters the company is unaware of wrongdoing and is cooperating with the authorities... A spokesman for Germany's MAN told it had received an information request from the regulator ... While Sweden's Volvo said its Volvo and Renault truck units in Britain had also received letters as part of the investigation... Sweden's Scania was also contacted by the OFT... The OFT said in a statement investigations were at an early stage and it had not yet determined whether the law had been broken... Under OFT rules, companies involved in price-fixing can be fined up to 10 percent of their annual turnover and executives face the threat of prosecution and a maximum jail term of five years...
* India - Daimler to launch new brand in. To roll out 6-49T trucks
Oragadam,Chennai,India -The Economic Times -19 Sep, 2010: -- The world's largest truck maker Daimler on Sunday said it will introduce a range of trucks in 6-49 tonnes category under a completely new brand for its proposed entry into India's commercial vehicle market in 2012... The company, which is investing Rs 4,400 crore through its wholly-owned subsidiary -- Daimler India Commercial Vehicles -- for a new facility at Oragadam in Tamil Nadu, is planning to increase its headcount by over five-fold to 3,000 and open 20 dealerships in the next two years... Globally, Daimler's truck brands include Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Fuso, Western Star, and Detroit Diesel... DICV has a base of 400 employees, both Indian and German. Production at the plant will be defined in a two-phase concept, to produce a maximum capacity of 70,000 units... * EU - Truck Safety Study Begins
Brussels,Belgium -OHS (FL,USA) -20 Sept 2010: -- Large manufacturers, including Ford, Volvo Trucks, BMW, Audi, and VW, are involved in the one-year research product... A large research project to evaluate safety systems for commercial trucks has been launched in Europe, with several large manufacturers participating. The euroFOT study (European Field Operational Test) is an EU project with 28 European companies and organizations participating... Volvo Trucks has 30 vehicles involved. Each truck is equipped with five video cameras that record drivers' braking and response to traffic... Volvo Trucks said Sunday that the trucks are expected to record 70,000 hours of data. "This gives us an opportunity to evaluate the benefit of accident-prevention systems and develop new systems in the future," said Carl Johan Almqvist, head of traffic and product safety at Volvo Trucks. * Italy - Fiat shareholders approve demerger of auto and industrial businesses
Torino,Milan,Italy -Reuters/The Telegraph (UK) -17 Sep 2010: -- Fiat shareholders approved a split between its automotive and industrial businesses, a move aimed at transforming the company into a global car player... The Italian company splitting off its industrial holdings, including the Iveco trucks business and farm gear maker CNH Global, with the avowed aim of unlocking their value through a separate listing and freeing up growth at the auto group... Under the demerger, stockholders will get one share in each unit. Fiat is 30.4pc owned by Exor, the Agnelli family holding... The move comes as European carmakers are seeing a drop in sales with the end of government scrappage incentives, with Fiat faring among the worst with August sales falling 24.2pc in Europe... The break-up, scheduled to be completed by the end of the year, is seen as opening the way to an eventual merger between Fiat and Chrysler, the US carmaker in which Fiat has management control... * USA - Navistar Plans Diesel Engine Plant in China
Warrensville,ILL,USA -Transport Topics -20 Sept 2010: -- A Navistar International Corp. affiliate and a Chinese firm have signed a joint venture agreement to develop, build and market advanced commercial diesel engines in China... The affiliate of NC2 — a joint venture between Navistar and Caterpillar Inc. — also signed a joint venture agreement with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd. (JAC) to develop, build and market advanced commercial vehicles in China... The group plans to build a manufacturing facility in Anhui Province, China, to produce JAC and Navistar-designed MaxxForce brand diesel engines... The joint venture will build vehicles at an existing 800,000 square foot JAC manufacturing facility dedicated to medium and heavy-duty trucks... The deal is pending approval by the necessary Chinese Government authorities, Navistar said in a statement...
