Truckstops Safety * UK - Twelve truckstops audited for blue-flag status

London,EN,UK -Road Transport, by Patric Cunnane -17 August 2010: -- Operators will soon be able to book accommodation at truckstops awarded blue-flag status in an EU-backed scheme designed to offer drivers safe and secure overnight accommodation... Twelve of 71 audited sites are UK-based and there are plans to eventually boost the list to 100... The scheme, known as Label, received half its 2.7m euro budget from the European Commission and the rest from 41 industry partners... Truckstops applied for accreditation under five headings:

* comfort and dignity
* safety
* security
* services
* food and shopping

Each category is awarded up to five stars - or locks in the case of security... The identities of the 71 will be released by the end of October after some fine tuning of the accreditation process... (Photo from transportcafe.co.uk: Europa transport cafe truck stop lorry park M4, Glasgow)
