TRANSPORT STATISTICS * USA - TransCore's July North American Freight Index up 122% from last year
Portland,ORE,USA -Truck News (CAN), by Lou Smyrlis -Aug 13, 2010: -- TransCore’s North American Freight Index shows that the spot freight market continued a strong showing, with a 122 percent increase in spot market freight availability in July, compared to this time last year... However, consistent with normal seasonal patterns, July’s North American load volume was 14 percent lower than June’s... In other month over month comparisons, spot freight loads for dry vans and refrigerated (reefer) vans each dipped 8 percent in July compared to June, while flatbed load availability declined 17 percent... Brokers, 3PLs, carriers, and owner-operators in North America are on track to list more than 60 million loads and trucks this year across a variety of services feeding TransCore’s DAT Network. As a result of this high volume, TransCore states its North American Freight Index is representative of the ups and downs in spot market freight availability throughout the U.S. and Canada... * USA - Weekly Intermodal Traffic Rises 18.6%
Washington,DC,USA -Transport Topics -12 Aug 2010: -- Intermodal rail traffic rose 18.6% last week, the Association of American Railroads said Thursday... Traffic for the week ended Saturday rose to 231,208 trailers and containers, which was 0.2% lower than the comparable week in 2008... Containers rose 19.8% to 196,567 units, while trailers gained 12% to 34,641, AAR said in its weekly report... U.S. railroads originated 284,507 carloads for the week, up 3.5% from the same week last year... Intermodal traffic was up 17.3% for the month of July from a year ago and down 5.1% from two years ago, AAR said in separate report... Carloads for the month improved 4.1% from last year and were 14.6% below the July 2008 level...
