TRUCKS CONTROL * Argentine - AFIP tax bureau implements new system

In-transit goods to be tracked by satellite

Buenos Aires,CABA,Argentine -The Buenos Aires Herald -16 Aug 2010: -- The Customs last Thursday launched a Customs Transit Security Initiative for goods in transit by truck through the country that involves the use of an electronic seal. The electronic seal will enable Customs to keep track in real time of the truck movements and take any measures should irregularities arise... Customs services in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile have already been in contact with Argentina asking how to the system can be implemented... The AFIP head noted that the volume of goods in transit had risen by 63 percent this year compared to the same period last year... Operations that fall under the new system will be registered in the María computerised trade system with the TRAM code. Once Customs has scrutinised all the shipping documents, it will authorise the transport company to place the electronic seals on the trucks. Once in place, these are activated automatically and the event is recorded in the María system and the Custom’s single monitoring centre (CUMA)... Customs will control the movements of the cargo, the route taken by the truck and will implement controls in response to the alerts received...
