* Missouri - Con-way Sets Sale of 4.3 Million Shares. Company said to be raising cash to upgrade trucking fleet
Joplin,MO,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online -May 13, 2010: -- Con-way will sell some 4.3 million shares of its stock in a special offering aimed at bringing new cash into the trucking and logistics company for what Con-way said would be “general corporate purposes” and capital spending... Con-way set the price of the offering at $35 a share, a slight discount off the company's average share price earlier this week, which would make the offering worth $150.5 million. Con-way also set an option for underwriters to purchase another 645,000 additional shares, potentially increasing the value of the offer... Investment analysts said they expect the company to use the cash in part to back an upgrade of Con-way’s trucking fleets... The company’s cash flow has been hurt by the downturn in shipping demand over the past year and by steep price discounting in the less-than-truckload arena... *N. Caroline - Shippers, Carriers Join in Clean-Trucks Initiative. Private sector group to work with ports to reduce emissions
North Wilkesboro,NC,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by Bill Mongelluzzo -May 14, 2010: -- Retailers, motor carriers and environmentalists have joined forces in the Southeast to develop a clean-air initiative to reduce harmful emissions from harbor trucks... The Coalition for Responsible Transportation anticipates expanding the program to container ports throughout the United States. The coalition made its announcement at a conference of the South Atlantic and Caribbean Ports Association... Some retailers such as Lowes have corporate policies that emphasize reducing greenhouse gases and diesel emissions. The Coalition for Responsible Transportation takes this effort to the harbors where goods are imported and exported... The initiative provides a framework for the private sector in which motor carriers and shippers can work with ports to develop programs that meet their individual needs... An effective clean-trucks program will allow container ports to grow while at the same time reducing harmful emissions from drayage trucks...
