TRUCKMAKERS' NEWS * USA - Freightliners' recall
Portland,Oregon,USA -Land Line Magazine, by Reed Black -March 19, 2010: -- Freightliner says that by April 23 it hopes to have notified the owners of nearly 9,000 trucks that their vehicles may have a potentially dangerous flaw... The problem is that the left-hand, inner tie-rod can loosen and separate from the steering rack, potentially leading to loss of control... OOIDA Member, Virgil Brown, reports an incident he experienced with his co-driver in their 2010 Cascadia. When they heard a rattling noise, they pulled over and discovered a loose bolt and nuts on the tie-rod assembly... * Sweden - Volvo CEO says many interested Renault stake
Stockholm,Sweden -Reuters, by Marilyn Gerlach/Sharon Lindores -19 March 2010: -- Volvo CEO Leif Johansson said many parties are interested in buying Renault's 20.7 percent stake in the Swedish truckmaker... A decision to sell the Volvo stake has "apparently" not yet been made, Johansson told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung... Johansson said it was unlikely that other truckmakers would buy the Renault stake in Volvo due to antitrust issues... Carlos Ghosn, the chief executive of Renault, said on February 11 he would look at divesting assets, but would not be pressured into any sales at unfavorable prices... Renault could be considering selling its holding, according to bankers and analysts... * Russia - Daimler’s Partner KamAZ in Talks on China Truck Venture
Naberezhnye Chelny,Tatarstan,Russia -Bloomberg/Businessweek, by Anastasia Ustinova -March 19, 2010: -- OAO KamAZ, the Russian truckmaker partly owned by Daimler AG, is in talks with “several” potential Chinese partners and may form a venture in the country next year, said Oleg Afanasiev, a KamAZ spokesman... KamAZ is seeking to make “at least” 10,000 vehicles a year in China and export some of those to Central and South America, Afanasiev said...
* USA - Hand Truck Makers Urge ITC To Maintain Duties
New York,NY,USA -Law 360 -March 19, 2010: -- American manufacturers of hand trucks have asked the U.S. International Trade Commission to maintain anti-dumping duties on imports from China, arguing that a revocation of the duties would likely result in a continuation or recurrence of injury to the domestic hand truck industry... The record of evidence in the current five-year sunset review supports the duties' continuation, Gleason Industrial Products Inc. and Precision Products Inc. contend in a public version of their comments...
