TRUCKING INDUSTRY * Australia - Trucking in La Jonquera

La Jonquera,Australia -etruck -February 26, 2010: -- This is a trip down memory lane for me. They reckon it’s the biggest truckstop in the world. There are trucks parked up everywhere in the town and the bars can get pretty rowdy most nights. My strongest memory is wandering about the hundreds and hundreds of parked trucks at 4am waking up drivers from all over Europe to ask if they had jump leads I could borrow. Ended up with a lot of pissed off truckies but I managed to get on the road within two hours... The main reason for the relief is the fact the gig didn’t go to New South Wales and Australian trucking has avoided the nightmare scenario... The Fatigue Management Program has its roots in the Queensland pilot and volume loading has been a success in the livestock industry in the state... Conversely, the new move may just stimulate the, normally obstructive, regulators in NSW and Victoria to find new and innovative ways of tying the trucking industry up in red tape...

* Victoria - Industry raises concerns over truck restrictions

Melbourne,VIC,Australia -ATN -March 4, 2010: -- The Brumby Government's plan to restrict trucks on Victoria's freeways may raise significant compliance issues, according to the Victorian Transport Association (VTA)... Roads and Ports Minister, Tim Pallas, unveiled a plan to stop trucks over 4.5 tonnes from using the right hand lane on multi-lane freeways... Trucks that break the law will be fined $350... But VTA CEO, Philip Lovel, has raised concerns about what the changes mean for Bolte Bridge traffic which is sent into the right hand lane towards the Burnely tunnel...
