* UK - Dunlop rolls out new fuel-efficient long-haul tires

Birmingham,UK -Fleet Owner (USA) -Feb 11, 2010: -- Goodyear’s Dunlop division has introduced a new line of fuel-efficient long-haul tires that are expected to save fleet owners up to 4% in fuel bills, as compared to using standard Dunlop long-haul tires. They also qualify as a “verified fuel saving technology” under the Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay program... Dunlop stated that the new FM line of steer, drive and trailer tires – when used in all positions – should achieve those fuel savings, though the tire maker was quick to caution that actual results may vary based on when tires are replaced as well as driving and road conditions, and proper tire maintenance...


* Germany - Continental beefs up load rating for drive tire

Hanover, Germany -Fleet Owner -Feb 11, 2010: -- Continental Tire is adding an extra load rating for its HDL2 DL [Heavy Drive Long Haul Deep Lug] tire. The tire model itself was introduced in January 2009... The additional rating is a load range H in the 11R22.5 size, giving this Continental drive tire additional capacity of 435 lbs of useful load in a single fitment, said the company... The HDL2 DL is produced at Continental’s Mount Vernon, IL plant and represents its deepest truck tire tread offering at 32/32” depth...


* Belgium - Bridgestone answer call to stricter European control with two new truck tyres

Zaventem,Belgium -Irish Trucker -16 Feb 2010: -- Bridgestone Europe has responded to the strict European emission levels by introducing two new truck tyres onto to the market... The two new truck steer-axle tyres R249 EVO and R297 EVO, have been introduced to the market in anticipation of increased front axle load for trucks. This increased front axle load is due to the addition of new clean technologies such as SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) which are set to meet with Euro V and VI emission regulations. The new tyres will according to Bridgestone provide operators with an environmental asset without affecting safety, durability and cost efficiency...


* India - Comment: Price behind tyre cos, truck makers' feud

New Delhi,India -DNA, by Sindhu Bhattacharya -February 16, 2010: -- The ongoing spat between tyre companies and makers of commercial vehicles has its genesis in pricing and not in inadequate capacities at the tyre makers’ end. In fact, India’s leading tyre makers are investing as much as Rs 9,000 crore over the next three years in expanding capacities to make just truck and bus radials... Leading CV makers such as Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and even Mahindra & Mahindra have been facing tyre shortages all of January because of “diversion” of radials as well as bias tyres to the after (replacement) market instead of supplies being completed to vehicle makers... The situation remains unresolved as of today, with CV makers...


* France - Michelin Profit Falls 71% on Vehicle-Industry Slump

Paris,France -Bloomberg/Business Week, by Laurence Frost -February 12, 2010: -- Michelin & Cie., the world’s second- largest tiremaker, said profit tumbled 71 percent last year as sales to automakers and trucking companies plunged and reorganization costs rose... Net income fell to 106 million euros ($145 million) from 360 million euros in 2008, short of the 121 million euros expected by analysts. The French company gave no outlook for this year, beyond pledging to maintain a positive cash flow...


* USA - Four More Yokohama Tires Earn SmartWay Verification

Washington,DC,USA -Truckinginfo -16 Feb 2010: -- Four more Yokohama commercial truck tires have been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay list of verified fuel-saving technologies for tires. This brings the number to seven of Yokohama products that are recognized as SmartWay "low rolling resistance tires"... SmartWay Transport, a collaboration between the EPA and the freight sector, is designed to improve energy efficiency and energy scrutiny, and reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions... The Yokohama commercial tires receiving SmartWay status are the 101ZL and 103ZR steer tires, RY587 trailer tires and the TY517MC2 drive tires...
