INSPECTIONS * USA - State cuts dozens of police inspector jobs
Indianapolis,IND,USA -Eyewitness News, by Richard Essex -Dec 08, 2009: -- About 40 state police employees will lose their jobs at the end of the month as a result of job cuts by the state... These are the members of the Indiana State Police that do not carry a gun. Most of the time they are under school buses... The inspectors also walk around semi trucks checking tires and lights... On the road they are know as the inspectors. Indiana State Police currently has 83 motor vehicle inspectors. However, on January 1st, that number gets cut in half. The reduction is the product of a faltering economy... According to the Indiana Motor Truck Association, Indiana has some of the safest roads in the nation. Some of the credit goes to the motor carrier inspectors... In the late 1980's, there were more than 190 full-time inspectors. This round of cuts will leave 41...
