New Speeding Laws * Australia - Truckies encouraged to attend session for

The laws require all parties in the supply chain to take positive steps to ensure heavy vehicle drivers do not drive in excess of any speed limit that applies to the vehicle

Melbourne,VIC,Australia -Road Freight News -9 October 2009: -- Victorian trucking operators are being urged to get up-to-date with new heavy vehicle speeding compliance laws... The new laws introduce chain of responsibility obligations into speeding offences... The requirements for drivers of heavy vehicles to obey speed limits are not impacted by these new CoR laws, and penalties still apply to drivers for failing to comply... The laws are part of model national regulations, and are already in force in New South Wales... Victorian trucking operators are being encouraged to attend the VicRoads' information sessions scheduled for Melbourne and in Victorian regional centres.. -- A MTU Detriot Diesel mechanic was awarded the title of apprentice of the year at the annual Commercial Vehicle Industry Association of Queensland (CVIAQ) gala... Lochlin McKean is due to complete his Certificate 3 as an automotive specialist... Stewart Maclennan from Cummins South Pacific and Simone Bange of Hastings Deering were also recognised among the large group of finalists with high achievement awards... Bange is the first female apprentice to win a major award from the CVIAQ...


* ARA demands B-double restrictions after results of ATSB inquest

Canberra,Australia -Road Freight News -7 October 2009: -- A recently released report into the collision between a freight train and truck has spurred the rail lobby to call on restrictions for B-doubles... The Australian Transport Safety Bureau's (ATSB) inquest into a collision between the train and the double roadtrain in South Australia in March last year showed the heavy vehicle did not have an access permit for the route it was using... The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) Chief Executive, Bryan Nye, announced B-double drivers using routes with level crossings should be forced to carry access permits, claiming the process will improve safety... Nye said the ARA wants to see all B-doubles and B-triples who are going to use level crossings to have permits... He said heavy vehicle permits were granted after careful consideration of the truck, the road infrastructure and most importantly, the safety of other road users...
