Advisory committee vice chairman ‘encouraged’ not to stay on

Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce, by R.G. Edmonson -Oct 9, 2009:
... Erik Autor, vice president and international trade counsel for the National Retail Federation, said an executive order that bars lobbyists from serving on government advisory committees is a draconian measure that could harm public policy by isolating government officials from lobbyists who are experts in their fields... The president issued the order on Sept. 23 as a “commitment to the American people to reduce the influence of lobbyists in Washington out of a belief that lobbyists have too often in the past achieved disproportionate impact on government decision makers at the expense of broader voices from the public at large,” according to Norman L. Eisen, White House special counsel for ethics and government reform... Eisen noted that the ban would affect some lobbyists who represented groups that agreed with administration goals and objectives... It's uncertain how the ban will affect other advisory committees. Two members of the Customs and Border Protection Commercial Operations Advisory Committee, Earl Agron, vice president for security at APL Ltd., and Kenneth Roberts, director of international business relations for Kraft Foods, are registered in the Senate's Lobbying Disclosure Act database...
