* USA - North American truck orders rise in August

Columbus,IND,USA -Truck News (CAN) -22 Sept 2009: -- North American net orders of Class 8 trucks reached their highest level since November 2008 in August, but remain down 30% year-over-year, according to ACT Research’s latest State of the Industry Report... August Class 8 orders were 15% higher than in July... Medium-duty orders, meanwhile, were up 75% in August compared to the prior year, driven largely by demand for buses. Medium-duty truck orders hit a five-month high in August, but were still down 26% compared to last August, ACT reported. Buses and step-vans provided the strongest orders...


* USA - Vocational owners report more reliable engines; Mercedes tops list

Westlake Village,CAL,USA -Today's Trucking (CAN) -22 Sept 2009: -- More vocational truck owners are satisfied with their heavy-duty engines this year from the year before, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Heavy-Duty Truck Engine and Transmission Study... The study found that satisfaction with heavy-duty engines was 733 on a 1,000-point scale, a modest improvement from last year's 725... In addition, engine problems were less common this year, dropping to 40 percent of customers with heavy-duty engine problems, the lowest since 2005 -- as was the percentage of customers with engine-related downtime... Mercedes-Benz ranked highest in customer satisfaction with vocational trucks with heavy-duty engines for the second year in a row, with a score of 765. The manufacturer performs particularly well in the engine quality, engine cost of ownership and engine warranty factors... Mercedes-Benz was followed by Cummins and Caterpillar engines... * India - Mercedes-Benz: Merc's trucks roll out

Delhi,India -The Business Standard, by Sayantani Kar -September 22, 2009: -- PricewaterhouseCoopers Partner Abdul Majeed, believes the market for heavy commercial vehicles holds great potential. “Earlier, 7- to 12-tonne trucks would do well in the market. But with increasing infrastructure needs, the demand for higher tonnage vehicles will only rise,” says he... For Mercedes-Benz, there is more to the Indian automobile market than just luxury cars. Along with Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, it is now looking to grow its share in the premium commercial vehicle market, which Volvo has ruled unchallenged for a while. Mercedes is not a newcomer to the Indian commercial vehicle market, having launched its Actros trucks and Mercedes-Benz buses in September 2008. The company has sold 580 trucks and 25 buses so far... Analysts say Mercedes has got the timing right. The economy is emerging out of the slowdown and demand for trucks from the infrastructure sector is projected to be robust in the days to come. * Vietnam - Vietnamese trucks to be sold in Laos

Hanoi,Vietnam -VN Business News -Sep 21, 2009: -- Vietnamese pick-up trucks of five tonnes or less would be allowed to enter Laos for sale, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade said... There would be no cap on numbers, so importers may respond directly to the demands of the Laos market, the ministry added... However, certificates of origin need to be presented for all imported trucks, and such imports will still be governed by the Laos Government’s import regulations... * Sweden - Scania: HGV sales market bottoming out

Stockholm,Sweden -HGV Ireland -20 Sept 2009: -- The global HGV sales market is bottoming out, according to truck maker Scania... "We believe that the downturn has levelled off, even if the activity level remains low among our customers," said Leif Östling, President and CEO of Scania... "We are increasing our production compared to the second quarter, but at the same time the third quarter is seasonally weak due to holiday periods in many markets," said Jan Ytterberg, Scania's Chief Financial Officer... * China - Guangqi Hino Rolls out Series Heavy Trucks


Conghua,Guangzho,China -SinoCast Daily Business/Trading Markets -September 22, 2009: -- Guangqi Hino Motors Co., Ltd., one of the top joint-venture truck makers in China, put its Conghua plant into operation and rolled out the 700 series heavy trucks... Coming at a price range of CNY 340,000 to CNY 602,000, the 700 series, which include tractors, concrete mixer trucks, and pump trucks, are 30% cheaper than their imported foreign counterparts... The first phase of the Conghua plant claims with a yearly production capacity of 20,000 heavy trucks and 30,000 light trucks. It is expected to have a yearly output value of CNY 10 billion and create 3,000 job opportunities... When asked if these trucks will be exported, general manager at the company says that they will first mainly meet the demand from Chinese buyers and export them after they get final approval from the shareholders...
